As a result of severe coastal erosion to the foundation of the existing concrete beach ramp, Mackinnon Construction were employed to construct a new beach ramp from the cliff top of Seagulls Lane down to the Bacton beach.
The steel reinforced 94 linear metre concrete ramp was constructed to a 1:8.0 gradient to enable safe access from the cliff top to the beach 12 metres below. The lateral section of the ramp was formed to a concave section.

The toe of the concrete ramp was constructed below sea level, requiring deep excavations below the beach level, dewatering, and the installation of a temporary shoring system.

The work scope included; the excavation of soils in excess of 5000 cubic metres and profiling of top soiled batters and surrounding landscape, laying and compaction of 196 tons of MOT type 1 aggregate, placement of 1400 square metres of steel mesh, 4.2 ton of cut & bent reinforcement, and 210 cubic metres of Pav2 concrete.

The design and construction criteria enables vehicles and heavy plant to traffic the ramp safely.
