The project required the construction of a high specification helicopter hangar and replacement of existing reinforced concrete apron. The enabling workscope included the undertaking of the civil engineering design of the hanger substructure & associated concrete apron works and the site strip of 5000 tons of top soils. The construction of the hanger included; excavation and installation of below ground pumped drainage system incorporating Klargester interceptor tank, reinforced concrete foundations, construction of reinforced concrete floor and car parking area. The aboveground build included the construction of reinforced dwarf walls erection of galvanized steel framework and high insulation fabric type cladding.
The technical challenges of the site team included the zero tolerances of both the cast-in anchor system for the steel frame building connection and the internal concrete floor. The completed hanger provides an internal floor space of 1304M2 for the servicing and storage of Bristow’s fleet of modern helicopters.
The workscope for the replacement of the adjoining 4000M2 apron included; breaking out of the existing reinforced concrete apron, preparation of the sub-base, installation of concrete jointing dowels, and the placement and finishing of ready mixed concrete. The apron works required the inflexible co-ordination of our movements and activities on the aerodrome, ensuring the continual safety of personnel and aircraft.
