Shell UK employed the services of Mackinnon Construction to install external blast proofing to the two-storey Control Room and the internal fit-out work on the Upper Tier COMAH gas terminal at Bacton.

The enabling works package included alterations to the existing brickwork, removal of internal walls, and various mechanical and electrical alterations in advance of the principal works commencing.

The building work scope of the blast proofing included; excavation and construction of reinforced concrete foundations, erection of steel portal frame and cladding system together with installation of new blast proof doors, concrete floors, air-conditioning system and interior fit-out, external foul and surface water drainage.

The works required meticulous planning and co-ordination to ensure the safety of both the personnel on the construction site and the client’s operational gas processing plant.
