IUK – Blast Protection Schemes to buildings.
The project comprised of two phases of works to provide jet fire protection to a control room and administration facility upon the Top Tier COMAH gas terminal at Bacton in the form of a blast wall and building over structure.
Phase one comprised of the construction of a steel and ceramic blast wall some 100 meters long and over 4 meters high connected to a reinforced concrete foundation some 2 meters deep and 6 meters wide.
Phase two comprised of the construction of a steel clad building constructed over the top and to the rear existing facility using a steel portal frame and cladding system together with installation of new blast proof windows and doors and interior alterations.
The principal challenges for our project team being; the works being undertaken during full occupation and operation of the building, whilst the gas terminal was fully functioning with the processing and distribution of offshore gas.
The works required meticulous planning and co-ordination to ensure the safety of both the personnel on the construction site and the client’s operational gas processing plant.
Technical proficiency was required at all stages from our project team to ensure the meticulous specifications were met.
